Ranking Countries by Global Slavery Index The Global Slavery Index, an annual publication of the Walk Free Foundation ranks the prevalence of modern slavery in 167 countries based on their vulnerability, the size of the problem in terms of absolute figures and their governmentâs response to modern slavery. Now, slavery can be defined as a situation in which individuals and people are bought and sold and are generally accepted as property by a system. Typically slaves receive no remuneration.
