To Be Number One The song Number One by the Nigerian recording artist, performer and producer, David Adedeji Adeleke, better known as Davido, in collaboration with the great Tanzanian bongo flava recording artist and dancer, popularly known as Diamond Platnumz. To be number in anything is not easy stuff. So how do you become number one? How do you become the best teacher, doctor, musician, soldier, even politician? Well, the first thing is hard work. It always pays off. Now Malcolm Gladwell has popularized the theory in Outliers in which putting in about 10,000 hours of deliberate practice can turn you into an expert. According to Malcom Gladwell, by the age of 20, the most accomplished musicians estimated they spent over 10,000 hours in deliberate practice, which is 2,500 and 5,000 hours more than two less accomplished groups of expert musicians or 8,000 hours more than amateur pianists of the same age. A second thing to have is a great team. Surround yourself with the best you can find, in mentors, associates or employees. Then be sure you do a lot of reading and understanding of your field of interest. You must be familiar with what your competitors do or did and what makes or made them successful. Look also in the history of your field to see what past champions did. Then try new things that look promising for enhancing success. That is, do a lot of research and development. This can give you an advantage over the competition. Then look at some intangibles like sowing a seed. This would include giving to others. Share your gift with others. Within reason, give it to them. Giving somehow opens the door for receiving. Donât hoard your talent. If it is ideas, invest it by sharing it, it will make it grow. Then develop mental toughness. Mentally tough people are more consistent than you. The basic premise in mental toughness is this: Itâs not what happens to you, it is how you react that really matters. You have complete and total control over how you react to any situation. So in summary, here it is: hard work, associates, reading, research and development, giving and mental toughness. But hope you also have luck, or the right genes or what we can just call the God factor, to be number one. Our hidden economics for you.
