The foods we eat daily come from a global marketplace consisting of the over 180 countries in the world. Virtually every country imports some of the foods that their people consume. However, the poorer countries tend to import a lot more than the richer countries. Indeed, among the most of the highly industrialized countries food imports account for less than 10% of all merchandise imports. These countries tend to produce a large variety of foods and create a better food security for their countries.
