Ranking Renewable Energy Production Renewable Energy is the way forward for Africa and for that matter much of the world. Renewable power, especially solar energy in electricity generation will have to be the equivalent of what mobile telephony has been in telephone communication in Africa in order to achieve adequate electric power solutions anytime soon. Every means to achieve this must be explored. Now renewable energy is derived from natural processes that are replenished at a faster rate than they are consumed. Solar, wind, geothermal, hydro, and some forms of biomass are common sources of renewable energy. Renewable energy will represent the largest single source of electricity growth over the next five years, driven by falling costs and aggressive expansion in emerging economies. In 2012, the world relied on renewable sources for around 13.2% of its total primary energy supply. In 2013 renewables accounted for almost 22% of global electricity generation, and the IEA Medium-Term Renewable Energy Report 2015 projects an increase of at least 26% by 2020. In this connection 1-which of the following countries has the highest amount of electricity production from renewable energy sources in the world? 1- China, 2- United States of America, 3- Germany and 4- Japan. 2-Which of the following African countries has the highest amount of electricity production from renewable sources? 1- South Africa, 2- Egypt, 3- Ethiopia and 4- Nigeria. ANSWERS 1-The country with the highest amount of electricity production from renewable sources is China at a whopping 949,2 Twh per year. 2- The African country with the highest electricity production from renewable sources is Egypt at number 34 in the world.
