Electricity Production in Nigeria: Ginie in a bottle! Oops we are doing it again. We are once again using Christina Agueleraâs hit song Ginie in a bottle to tell a compelling story. Nigeriaâs electricity situation is pathetic, and the Nigerian economy is handcuffed by this situation. Something must happen. This Ginie must come out of the bottle. As Christiana Aguelera says â I feel like I've been locked up tight. For a century of lonely nights. Waiting for someone to release meâ The ability of Nigeria to generate more electricity appears to be locked up like a ginie in a bottle. It needs to be released. Fortunately, once again we have very capable hands that I believe can do the job. We have some of our bests heading the Ministry of Power and the National Electricity Regulatory Commission. From their background, experience and preparation, these guys can do it . It is embarrassing to say in public that we are doing 2,000 megawats of electricity for a country of over 180 million people. Please! And then sometimes we say that oh early in February we did about 5,000 megawatts, as if that's something. Now listen to this. South Africa is steadily doing around 50,000 megawatts for just about 55 million people. Quoting Aguilera, If you want to be with me, I can make your wish come true. Just come and set me free and I'll be with you. If we want steady electric power throughout Nigeria, let us set electricity generation, transmission and distribution free. Let us do it now. It is not enough to free only distribution and generation. If you want to produce, transmit and distribute in Maitama alone, just do it. If you want to do it in Ogoniland alone, just do it. Where do you want to do it. Katsina? Daura to be specific? Just do it. Let us not wait until we have equalized production, transmission and distribution through the country. This is a slow and torturous process. Folks if we get the electricity Ginie out of the bottle. If we get it free, we would have released throughout the nation the capacity to grow our communities and our nation more competitively. Our hidden economics for you.
