Ranking Countries by Spending on Education An educated workforce is vital to a countryâs economic performance and well-being. Therefore almost every countryâs desire is to have an educated workforce. As a result educational spending is a good starting point to assess how well-educated a country is. There are different ways to evaluate spending on education, such as spending as a percent of GDP or the actual typical amount spent per student. Spending as a percent of GDP can be a misleading indicator, especially when the GDP is disproportionately small or large. Therefore the actual typical amount spent may be a better measure.
